The PhD in Integrative Neuroscience will hold an online recruitment day for students on February 24, 2025. Registration is open until February 14.

The Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC-UC) is launching a PhD in Integrative Neuroscience (idpIN) aimed at students and researchers from different areas of knowledge, such as biology, biomedical sciences, engineering, psychology or related fields. The idpIN is based at the University of Coimbra's Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (iiiUC).

The course is coordinated by Ana Luísa Carvalho, professor in the Life Sciences Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology and coordinator of the Neurosciences and Disease area at CNC-UC, and Cristina Márquez, ERA Chair in Neural Circuits of Social Behavior at CNC-UC.

For Ana Luísa Carvalho, this PhD “brings together the excellent scientific community in the field of Neurosciences in Coimbra, and represents an opportunity for students who want comprehensive training in the field of Neurosciences, the acquisition of cutting-edge experimental and computational skills in the area, and the development of critical thinking and autonomy to develop their future projects.”

The new doctoral program aims to train the next generation of independent neuroscientists prepared to respond to emerging and impactful issues in this area. This interdisciplinary program is structured to provide an overview of the state of the art in neuroscience, from an integrative and transversal point of view, from molecules to synapses, to neuronal circuits, behavior and computation, in animal models and real-life experiments with humans.

“idpIN's main mission is to give students the chance to create their own paths to revolutionary discoveries about the brain and associated diseases. We want to give our students not only an overview of the current situation in the field, but also provide them with the tools to approach issues in a creative way,” says Cristina Márquez, co-coordinator of the new PhD at the University of Coimbra.

The program includes contributions from researchers in fundamental and applied science as well as doctors, who will provide a translational and integrative perspective. The training includes different emerging technologies in order to train students for different challenges in their research projects.

idpIN will hold an online recruitment day for students on February 24, 2025. Registration is open until February 14 here.
